Today, a huge number of information sources are available via computer networks. Thus, integration of heterogeneous information sources has been one of the most important issues in recent advanced application environments. In particular, with the broad acceptance of the World Wide Web (or Web), there is a great deal of demand for integration of the Web and databases. In this paper, we propose WebNR/SD as a basic framework for integration of the Web, relational databases, and structured document repositories. WebNR/SD combines an abstract data type named the structured document type and the nested relational structures to accommodate structured documents (Web pages) and relations. WebNR/SD also has a data type named Hlink type to deal with hyper-text links among Web pages, and operators to dynamically import and export Web pages on demand. WebNR/SD can dynamically convert Web pages into nested relational structures and vice versa. In this paper, we focus on integration of the Web and relational databases, and amalgamation of data in Web pages and relations is explained. In addition to querying different information sources, we can construct hyper-text views over the underlying information sources.
